Mercedes GLT pickup spied testing yet again

Will be launched at the end of the decade.

In March last year, Mercedes-Benz Vans announced that it will launch a mid-size pickup truck before the end of the decade. Soon after, Daimler and Renault-Nissan Alliance jointly announced that they're working on the Mercedes pickup. The Mercedes pickup, which reports say will be named 'Mercedes GLT', will be based on the Nissan NP300 (Nissan NP300 Navara and Nissan NP300 Frontier)'s architecture.

The Mercedes GLT was spied testing for the first time in a completely undisguised Nissan Navara body in January and now, a camouflaged test mule has been spied testing yet again, by motor1.com. The heavy camouflage completely hides the design, and it's clearly visible that the crew cab pickup test mule has a wider rear track and extended fenders compared to the Nissan its based on.

Mercedes-Benz will likely offer both passenger version and commercial versions of the pickup. The former could be positioned as a lifestyle product, an idea Hyundai was trying to pitch with its Hyundai Santa Cruz Crossover Truck Concept. The Mercedes GLT will be targeted at customers in Europe, Australia, South Africa and Latin America and be built by Nissan in the Renault plant in Cordoba, Argentina, as well as at the Nissan Barcelona plant in Spain. Production will commence at the end of the decade.
