Paris Live - Mercedes V Class 4MATIC

Available only on the top-spec V Class.

Mercedes-Benz has launched the Mercedes V Class 4MATIC variant (all-wheel drive) at the ongoing 2014 Paris Motor Show. The V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC goes on sale in December and prices in Germany start at 53,109.70 Euros (INR 40.91 lakhs).

The new generation luxury MPV, like the two-wheel drive variants launched earlier this year, gets premium styling which subscribes to the brand's latest design language. The well-appointed and spacious cabin gets a brand new dashboard design which is finished with top quality materials. Apart from succeeding its predecessor, the new V Class is also considered as the alternative for the R Class.

Coming to the powertrain, the four-wheel drive system does without conventional mechanical differential locks. To start with, the system will be reserved to the top-end V 250 BlueTEC which produces 190 PS (187 bhp) and 440 Nm of torque. Power is transferred to all wheels via a 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission which has in it an integrated all-wheel drive.

The 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system bases itself on the 4ETS Electronic Traction System that works in conjunction with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP). Power distribution between the front and rear axle is in a 45:55 ratio, but the 4ETS system directs more drive to the wheel with more traction in case a slippage is detected on one of the wheels.

Mercedes will offer the 4WD system on other V Class variants in the future.
