Mercedes X-Class - IAA 2017 Live

Mercedes-Benz is showcasing their X-Class pickup truck at IAA 2017 in Frankfurt, Germany. It made its debut earlier this year in July. The Mercedes X-Class is based on the concept of the same name showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017.

The exterior styling bears traditional Mercedes-Benz cues such as the centrally positioned star and the twin-louvre radiator grille. Black bumper inserts along with chrome detailing help highlight the rugged nature of the vehicle. The standard tailgate opening is 90 degrees. However, buyers can have the Mercedes X-Class without a rear bumper if a 180-degree tail gate opening is required. The Mercedes X-Class is 5,340 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,819 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 3,150 mm and a maximum payload capacity of 1,042 kg.

The cabin features the use of high-quality materials with a part leather finish for the dashboard. There are circular aircon vents with a silver shadow or gloss black finish depending on the trim. Mercedes has equipped the X-Class with their COMAND infotainment setup, which can be accessed via the centrally mounted floating touch enabled 8.4-inch screen. In its fully loaded POWER trim, the Mercedes X-Class gets electrically adjustable seats and multiple interior trim options for the dashboard.

The mid-size pickup shares its platform with the third generation Nissan Navara and Renault Alaskan. It consists of a ladder-frame chassis, a rear multi-link solid axle, front independent wheel suspension and coil springs on both axles. Initially, Mercedes-Benz will offer the pickup in two variants - X220d and X250d. They will be powered by single turbo 163 hp 2.3 L diesel and biturbo 190 hp 2.3 L four-cylinder diesel engines respectively. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual as standard with a 7-speed automatic available on request. AWD is optional on both models. In 2018, the X350d variant with a 258 hp and 550 Nm V6 will be added to the lineup. It will get 4MATIC all wheel drive and a 7-speed automatic as standard.
