MG eZS to be locally made, first prototype rolls out from Halol plant [Video]
While the MG Hector is yet to go on sale, the MG eZS has already started rolling out of the Halol plant in Gujarat. The EV will be launched in India in the fourth quarter of this year (October-December 2019).
The video shows the first MG eZS prototype being made at the Halol plant on 5 June, the world environment day. “That’s (MG eZS is) going to be a CBU programme,” P Balendran, Executive Director, MG Motor India, had told IAB in April this year. Localisation could have followed if there was enough demand. However, the plan has been changed to localise right from the get-go.
“The MG eZS, as one of the first locally produced global EVs, will mark a new chapter in environment-friendly mobility in India,” Rajeev Chaba, President & Managing Director, MG Motor India, announced yesterday, confirming the localisation plan. The company will likely assemble this model from CKD kits imported from China.
The MG eZS is 4,314 mm long, 1,809 mm wide and 1,620 mm/1,644 mm tall. Its wheelbase spans a length of 2,585 mm. The zero-emission SUV employs an electric motor good for 110 kW (150 PS) and 350 Nm. This motor gets its energy from a 44.5 kWh battery pack that offers a range (NEDC) of 335 km. A 0-50 km/h sprint takes 3.1 seconds. The power consumption rating (NEDC) is 13.8 kWh/100 km.

The MG eZS will be offered with the iSMART Next-Gen infotainment system, which will debut in the country in the MG Hector this month. Expect more features to be revealed closer to launch by the year-end. Thanks to localisation, the price could be under INR 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
