Segment-first tech features of MG Hector to be revealed on April 2

MG India will unveil several segment-first tech features of the MG Hector at 'drive.in' tech forum on April 2. The new model is one of the four iterations of the SAIC-GM-Wuling's third SUV, which is known as the Baojun 530 in China, Wuling Almaz in Indonesia, and the all-new Chevrolet Captiva in Latin America.

The 'Internet of Cars' concept that will be unveiled at the Tech Forum ‘drive.in’ on April 2 will preview several tech features of the MG Hector.

In the words of the manufacturer, the MG Hector will "ensure seamless, constant connectivity while driving and is equipped for Over the Air (OTA) functionality, making it one of the only vehicles in the world to come integrated with the feature." Dubbed the 'internet of cars' concept, the system works in tandem with an onboard device that houses an eSIM card which transmits data through a mobile network to the user.

The connected car technology in the MG Hector won't be limited to providing information on the various aspects of the vehicle. The system will offer details on the passenger health, facilitate online transactions, offer information on the vehicle parking location, toll-tax payment, et al. Other highlights of the new model's features list will include a 10.4-inch portrait-style touchscreen infotainment unit with smartphone integration, panoramic sunroof, 7-inch driver information display, and a 360-degree camera display system.

The MG Hector will be available with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-litre oil-burner. Reportedly, the former will produce a maximum power of 143 PS and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The latter will be the FCA-sourced Multijet II unit, which outputs 173 PS and 350 Nm for the Jeep Compass.

The MG Hector will feature various segment-leading features, including an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold function.

The MG Hector will launch in India in the next quarter of the calendar year (April-June period). Prices of the new SUV are likely to start around INR 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
