MG Hector pre-bookings to open on 4 June

MG Motor India has announced that it will start taking pre-bookings for the Hector on 4 June. The company will launch the C-SUV later the same month.

The MG Hector will be differentiated from the Baojun 530, the Wuling Almaz and the Chevrolet Captiva with its star-rider grille and the twin-pod LED headlights.

MG Motor India will take pre-orders for the Hector online (on mgmotor.co.in), beginning at 12 noon, and at 120 centres. The company plans to have a total of 250 centres by September this year. The network will be spread across 50 cities in the country, and the dispatches of the Hector from the Halol plant will begin soon.

The MG Hector will be launched as the first internet SUV in its segment with 50+ connected features. It will have 19 exclusive product features, including 10.4-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, front parking sensors, 360-degree camera view, 8-colour ambient lighting, 4-way power adjustable co-driver seat and Infinity premium sound system.

MG Motor India has confirmed the specifications along with the latest announcement. It will offer the Hector with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 143 PS and 250 Nm of torque as well as a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine developing 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque. In a segment-first, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system will be available for engine auto start-stop, regenerative braking and E-boost (for extra 20 Nm) functions and a 12% higher fuel economy.

According to leaked documents, the below will be the mechanical configurations available:

  • 1.5L petrol, 6-speed MT, FWD, 14.16 km/l
  • 1.5L petrol, 6-speed AT, FWD, 13.96 km/l
  • 1.5L petrol-electric mild-hybrid, 6-speed MT, FWD, 15.81 km/l
  • 2.0L diesel, 6-speed MT, FWD, 17.41 km/l

The MG Hector will be pitted against the likes of Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier.

The MG Hector will compete with the likes of Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier. Its starting price will likely fall somewhere in the INR 15-20 lakh (ex-showroom) range.
