At an event in Belgium, BMW M held a preview of the 2018 BMW M5 for prospective buyers revealing a few details ahead of its world premiere at the 2017 IAA on September 12.

One of the attendees managed to click an overhead shot of the new M5 revealing the double-bubble carbon fibre roof.

BMW has confirmed that the new M5'S 4.4L twin turbo V8 petrol engine will produce 600 hp and 700 Nm of peak torque. It will be paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and power is sent to the wheels via the M xDrive with three modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD. It is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, while the V-max of the digital speedometer indicated 330 km/h. This is the most powerful and fastest BMW M car ever made.

The Belgian demo vehicle was in the Marina Bay Blue Metallic body colour with a double-bubble carbon fibre roof similar to that of the BMW M6. It had 20-inch 5-spoke alloy rims with optional gold-painted brake callipers for the carbon ceramic discs. Instead of a side intake, the new M5 has side gills similar to that of the M3 and M4. It seems the CAD renders of the M5's purported front fascia, which surfaced in September 2016, are consistent with the car showcased, but it has the modern BMW M ORVM similar to the BMW M4.

The BMW F90 (teased) will come with three drive settings: 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD.

For an M car, the interior is claimed to be "lavish and busy". Exclusive to the M5 is a red start/stop button, small red paddles on top of the steering pad, and shiny smooth dry carbon trim across the dashboard. The gear selector will have a dedicated ‘P’ button, which wasn't available in the previous version's 7-speed DCT unit. It will continue to get all the luxury goodies from the regular models, which include driver and passenger massage seats, BMW Display Key, Bowers and Wilkins Diamond system, Parking Assistant with remote parking, 4-zone climate control, automatic tailgate, and soft close doors.
