Nearly 13,350 units of FZ 25 and Fazer 25 recalled in India

India Yamaha Motor has issued a recall for its quarter-litre motorcycles, the FZ 25 and the Fazer 25, over a potential problem with the engine head cover bolt. The recall affects 12,620 units of FZ 25 and 728 units of Fazer 25 that were manufactured from June 2018.

The faulty engine head cover bolt will be replaced free of cost by Yamaha authorized dealers. Below is what the company said in a statement:

India Yamaha Motor has announced a Precautionary Recall of Yamaha FZ 25 and Yamaha Fazer 25 in India with immediate effect. This voluntary recall is being undertaken to address an issue related to “Head Cover Bolt loosening” in 13,348 units of motorcycles [12,620 units of FZ 25 and 728 units of Fazer 25] manufactured from June 2018. The affected motorcycles will be repaired free of cost at any of the Yamaha authorized dealers and the owners will be contacted individually.

The Yamaha FZ 25 and the Yamaha Fazer 25 are available at INR 1,34,680* and INR 1,44,680* respectively. Both motorcycles share the exact same motor and underpinnings, although they are distinguished by their respective styling. The FZ 25 is a roadster segment motorcycle while the Fazer 25, with its fairing and upright ergonomics, is designed to munch miles on the highway. The FZ 25 is also available in MotoGP edition (INR 1,36,680*) that brings special livery to the roadster.

Engine specifications include a 249 cc air-cooled, SOHC, 2-valve mill that pumps out 20.9 PS of max power and 20 Nm of peak torque. The motor is linked to a five-speed gearbox.

In other updates, Yamaha has launched the BS-VI compliant FZ-FI and FZS-FI in the Indian market. The engine has witnessed a marginal decline in power, while the torque output has gone up by 0.8 Nm. The BS-VI compliant 149 cc air-cooled, SOHC, 2-valve engine makes 12.4 PS of max power at 7,250 rpm and a peak torque of 13.6 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The BS-IV model, for reference, made 13.2 PS of power at 8,000 rpm and 12.8 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm.

As many as 12,620 units of the Yamaha FZ 25 and 728 units of the Yamaha Fazer 25 (pictured) are affected by this recall.

India Yamaha Motor will launch a new product in December this year, although it has remained tight-lipped about any further details. However, a report suggested that the company will launch the 2020 YZF-R3 in the Indian market on the aforementioned date. In fact, the same report claimed that the unofficial bookings for the YZF-R3 have already started.
