The new Hyundai Santro is a day away from its official launch. The new model will rival the Maruti Wagon R, Renault Kwid 1.0, and Tata Tiago. Slotting below the Grand i10, it will become one of the most affordable models in the company's line up. Youtube user Auto Explain has reviewed the top-of-the-line version of the new small car and here are the highlights from the test drive report:

The reviewer starts with talking about the design of the new Hyundai Santro. He goes on to highlight the cascading grille and the high-set fog lamps of the new tallboy. Next, the video gives us a good look at the car's side profile, which is slightly reminiscent of the last generation i10. All the trims will be available with 14-inch steel wheels. At the rear, the new Santro features a dual-tone bumper, a neatly sculpted trunk-lid, and slightly small tail lamps.

The video completely reveals the interior of the new Hyundai Santro. The reviewer highlights the depth of the door pockets and tells that they can easily hold a 1-litre bottle. Highlights of the dashboard include 'Mercedes-inspired' aircon vents, a touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a sufficiently large glove compartment. As seen in the video, the power window switches have been placed ahead of the gear knob, and the entire cabin features a dual-tone beige-black finish. The instrument console carries analogue speedometer and tachometer along with a digital Multi-information Display (MID). The new Hyundai Santro will become the first car in its segment to offer rear aircon vents.

The new Hyundai Santro is underpinned by an updated version of the Grand i10's platform. It's powered by a 1.1-litre four-cylinder engine that will be available in two formats - petrol and petrol + CNG. For the petrol model, it delivers a maximum power of 69 PS along with a peak torque of 99 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed Smart Auto automated manual gearbox. For the CNG version, the 1.1-litre motor offers 59 PS and 84 Nm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The new Hyundai Santro will be exported to the Middle East and Africa.
