IAB Report - Rolls-Royce confirms development of a new convertible for a mid-2016 launch

The new Roller could be the Wraith Drophead Coupe.

Rolls-Royce Cars announced yesterday that it is developing a new Drophead tourer which is slated to be launched in mid-2016.

Without revealing the platform or the name, Rolls-Royce says that the new model would "deliver effortless, open-top touring through the perfect marriage of modern Rolls-Royce luxury, style and elegance with an engaging and exhilarating driving experience". The legendary British luxury car maker describes the upcoming car's styling as contemporary, graceful and sensuous.

The new Rolls-Royce open-top model could be the Drophead Coupe version of the Wraith.

Announcing the development of the new car, Mr. Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said:

We are currently developing an exciting and thoroughly contemporary interpretation of a pinnacle Drophead tourer which will introduce even more discerning men and women to Rolls-Royce ownership.

The new open-top Roller could be the Drophead Coupe version of the Wraith Coupe though the naming is uncertain as of now. The Rolls-Royce Wraith Drophead Coupe (if named that) is likely to borrow the 6.6-litre V12 engine pushing out a colossal 624 bhp and 800 Nm of torque, from the Wraith.

The company has also disclosed that prototypes of the new car have entered a rigorous test phase.
