New Suzuki Jimny heading into the UK in 2019 - Report
The fourth generation Suzuki Jimny will enter the UK market in 2019 reports AutoExpress. Leaked via an official Suzuki presentation last week, the new 2019 Suzuki Jimny will replace the current model which will complete 21 years on sale in the UK when its replacement finally arrives.
The report claims that the introduction of the Suzuki Boosterjet engine seems unlikely on the compact SUV. Instead, the 2018 Suzuki Jimny could get a 1.2 L Dualjet engine, which would be cheaper. Suzuki's AllGrip AWD system will be standard. Expect specifications of the new Jimny to emerge closer to its unveiling.
The design of the Jimny adopts a new retro approach for the exterior. Spy shots and leaked images reveal a boxier than ever profile with utilitarian touches in the form of circular headlamps and bumper-mounted tail lamps. As evident from one of the leaked images, Suzuki will offer customization options, akin to the Maruti iCreate, for the Jimny. However, it is unclear whether the UK will receive them.
A similar approach is seen on the inside. The dashboard houses modern features like an automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel and a touchscreen AVN. While the HVAC dials and steering wheel are plucked from the Swift's parts bin, the overall layout is reminiscent of the Ignis.
AutoExpress reckons the new Suzuki Jimny, which will ride on a ladder chassis unique to it, will go on sale at a starting price of around £12,999 positioning it between the Suzuki Ignis and the Suzuki Vitara. The Jimny is one of the five new vehicles Suzuki promised to introduce by 2020.
