Auto Shanghai 2013 - New Toyota Yaris makes its world premiere

The new Toyota Yaris hatchback with a completely new look made its first public appearance at the Auto Shanghai 2013.

The new Yaris is the production version of the Dear Qin concept that was showcased at last year's Shanghai Auto Show. The Vios, which also shared the show floor with the Yaris is its sedan brother.

While the Vios sedan feature a sleeker grill and headlamps, the Yaris settles for a bit more toned down appearance. The silver grill flows down the bumper like a French beard. The headlamps are slightly larger than that of the Vios to further improve the individuality of the twins.

The car looks handsome in profile with the C-pillar blackened out. The rear fascia sports a new boomerang style taillights that are positioned at the edges. Overall, the design of the China spec Yaris is significantly different from the car that is available elsewhere.

The simple and neatly laid out interior is similar to the new Vios. A mix of dual plastic and faux wooden inserts is a welcome addition in an affordable B Segment sedan.

The current Chinese spec hatch is available with a 1.0 litre and a 1.3 litre petrol engine and it is expected that the powertrains would be retained for the dragon land.

The Toyota Yaris and the Vios are vital products for the Japanese automaker in the Chinese market.
