Yamaha updated its FZ series with the launch of the V3.0 on January 21, 2019. The motorcycles share underpinnings and the engine but feature different styling cues. In this post, we list all the differences between the FZ V3.0 and the FZ-S V3.0.

For starters, the Yamaha FZ-S is the more premium version and is sold at INR 97,000 while the Yamaha FZ retails for INR 95,000 – both ex-showroom Delhi prices. For the INR 2,000 extra, FZ-S gets a dual tone colour, chrome bezels and engine cowl that add a premium and sporty look to the motorcycle. The chrome garnishing can be seen on the fuel tank mounted faux air-scoops. The dual tone finish on the FZ-S is seen on the side panel and the unit under the fuel tank. Buyers also get an additional choice of colour as the FZ-S is sold in three options - Matte Black, Dark Matte Blue and Grey & Cyan Blue.

The FZ, on the other hand, gets a subtle black finish to the faux air-scoops and body colour on the side panels. The panels under the fuel tank get the body coloured finish too. Apart from the dual tone colour, the FZ also misses the engine cowl although installing the unit from the FZ-S should not be an issue. Buyers can opt from the two colour options – Metric Black & Racing Blue.

Apart from these differences, both motorcycles feature identical specifications and design. Thus, you would find FZ25 inspired LED headlight on the FZ and the FZ-S. The cockpit features a new instrument console while the revised rear gets a new, single-piece pillion grab rail that looks appealing and functional at the same time.

Mechanical specifications are identical, and the FZ and the FZ-S feature a 149 cc, SOHC fuel-injected, 2-valve, single-cylinder Blue Core motor that produces 13.2 PS of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 12.8 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission. The motor is yet to receive BS-VI compliance although we expect that to happen much ahead of the April 2020 deadline.

The Yamaha FZ, with its more affordable price tag, misses out on the dual-tone finish, engine cowl and chrome bezels around the faux air-scoops.
