New Yamaha MT-25 to feature an ECU superior than 2019 Yamaha R3 - Report

The engineers at Yamaha are working to update the Yamaha MT-25 and make it superior compared to its faired counterpart R25/R3. A new report from GreatBiker says that the new Yamaha MT-25 will feature a new Electronic Control Unit (ECU). This ECU is said to be more advanced than the one seen in the facelifted Yamaha R3 and facelifted Yamaha R25.

The new Yamaha MT-25 will feature an upgraded suspension setup, ECU and headlamp console.

An ECU controls the various electronic aspects of a motorcycle, including the fuelling and ratio of the fuel-air mixture. It is not clear yet how Yamaha will be upgrading the ECU of the new Yamaha MT-25. However, the engineers might be working on squeezing out a few more horses of the quarter-litre mill. That’s not all, Yamaha may even bring in Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) to aide the new ECU. This will also ensure the powerplant to produce the desired amount of performance across all engine speeds.

In its present form, the Yamaha MT-25 is powered by a 250 cc twin-cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled mill. It can produce 36 PS of power and 22.6 Nm of torque. The suspension system includes conventional telescopic fork up front and a monoshock in the rear. The word on the street is that the new Yamaha MT-25 will feature upside down fork as seen in the new Yamaha R25 and the new Yamaha R3.

The halogen headlamp will be replaced by a newly designed, MT-15-inspired LED headlamp. Yamaha may even plonk in a slip and assist clutch to complement the 6-speed gearbox. It will also be introducing a new, all-digital instrumentation console seen in the aforementioned fully-faired models.

The semi-digital instrument panel will be replaced by a fully-digital unit.

The aforementioned changes will percolate to the Yamaha MT-03 as well. There is no official word on whether Yamaha will launch the MT-25 or MT-03 in India.
