Next-gen 2017 Maruti Swift vs current Maruti Swift - Old vs New

Features evolutionary styling changes.

Following the leak of the next generation Maruti Swift's (Suzuki Swift) styling in a dealer conference, IAB has compiled a pictorial comparison of the current and next gen models.

Exterior:

The exterior of the next gen Swift adopts an evolutionary styling that retains the basic silhouette of the current car, thus banking on familiarity for success. However, designers have incorporated new design elements that make the 2017 Swift look contemporary.

Although the model in the image leak is likely to be the UK-spec Suzuki Swift Sport, the regular Maruti Swift could feature a slightly filtered-down version of its styling. The front end is now upright and houses a gaping hexagonal grille, large intakes, smaller headlamps with LED DRLs, and new alloy wheel designs. The curves of the front fender appear to be inspired by the Maruti Baleno.

At the back, the roof adopts a floating roof impression, while the door handles have been moved to the C-pillar. Like the front fender, the waistline around the rear end also draws inspiration from the Baleno. Other than that, it gets new taillamps, bigger tailgate, and a repositioned registration plate area.

Interior:

Inside, the next generation Maruti Swift adopts an all new design that looks cleaner and more modern than the outgoing model. It gets a new steering wheel design, twin pod instrument dials, new center console design with circular HVAC vents, Smartplay infotainment system, and new HVAC controls.

Top-end grades will get contrasting trim adorned on the dashboard, floor console and door panels.

Engines:

Details on its engine lineup are not confirmed, although it’s likely to feature the 1.2L K-Series in addition to the 1.0L Boosterjet. The 1.3L DDiS could be replaced with Suzuki’s self-developed diesel engine. Gearbox choices may include 5-speed manual, an AMT or even a CVT unit.

The next generation Swift will be based on the lightweight platform sourced from the Baleno. It promises better crash protection, and uses up to 41 percent of tensile steel for its construction, making it lighter than the outgoing model. With the lightweight platform, the new Swift could also be more fuel efficient than the outgoing model.
