Next-gen 2020 Honda City rear-quarter - IAB Rendering
The 2020 Honda City is now in its advanced stages of development. In June, it was spied wearing its production body in Thailand, where presumably its development took place. Spy shots revealed earlier this month that now it has reached India for local testing. In the latest, IAB's master designer, Shoeb Kalania, has come with a rendering to give his impression of its rear three quarters.
The next-gen Honda City's design changes will be more evolutionary, probably because the company doesn't want to deviate from the current design theme that has been received very well by the customers. Still, as indicated by our rendering, the changes will be significant enough and be aimed at making the car look more elegant rather than sportier. The smoothly sculpted bumper and boot lid and the flattish tail lamps look very attractive on the all-new model. On the sides, the greenhouse has a familiar design, while the 16-inch machined alloy wheels carry an all-new design. The door panels and quarter panels have a simple design.
At the front, earlier spy shots suggest that the next-gen Honda City will have fully redesigned front bumper, more aggressive headlamps and Honda Civic-style radiator grille. Inside, too, a completely new design is expected. There should be a slew of new/enhanced comfort and convenience features. Features like wireless charging, new touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and connected car solutions are expected to be offered to stay on par with the competition.
The next-gen City will be launched with BS-VI 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engines. As standard, the petrol engine will most likely be linked to a standard 5-speed MT and the diesel engine will be mated to a 6-speed MT. An optional CVT will be common to both.
Honda will also sell a full-hybrid variant of the next-gen City, with the i-MMD system, internationally. India will receive an electrified variant of the City, but whether will it be with a full-hybrid powertrain or a cheaper, mild-hybrid powertrain, is yet to be known.
