Next gen 2021 Hyundai Creta to offer seven seater option - Report

The SUV is in its early stages of development.

Citing sources, Autocar India reports that Hyundai will offer a seven seater variant of the next generation Hyundai Creta as the Korean manufacturer believes that there is demand for such a variant in India. It is to be noted that Hyundai offers a 7-seat option on the Santa Fe in LHD countries.

Hyundai believes that there is demand for such a 7 seater variant of the Creta in India. The Creta is currently manufactured in Russia, China and India, and will rollout in Brazil in weeks.

Given that the next generation Creta is in the early stages of development, details are currently scarce. It is reported to arrive in 2021, and could see a rethink in design and the engine range. One design feature that is sort of confirmed is the 'cascading grille' that Hyundai said is part of the new family identity.

With the introduction of a 7-seater variant along with the regular 5-seater, the Creta will appeal to a wider audience and can take more customers away from the Honda BR-V, Mahindra Scorpio and even products above and below its segment, such as the Mahindra XUV500 and Mahindra TUV300. Hyundai may change its mind on giving India a 4WD variant when it moves to the next generation.

The styling changes in the Brazil-spec Creta are likely to be introduced in the Creta made in India and China, during the mid-cycle change.

Hyundai is currently prepping a facelift for the Creta, which will be unveiled as the Brazil-spec Hyundai Creta at the Sao Paulo Auto Show next week. It will go on sale in the South American market in 2017, while the changes introduced could make its way into the India-spec Creta and China-spec ix25 as a mid-cycle refresh.
