Next-gen Honda PCX 150 to feature V-TEC technology - Report

A new leaked patent image shared by the folks at TMCBlog reveals that the next-generation Honda PCX 150 will feature a V-TEC engine. Looking at the image, it is clear that the all-new Honda PCX 150 will have a 4-valve engine instead of a 2-valve engine like in the current model. The introduction of V-TEC means that the Honda PCX 150 will be able to compete with the Yamaha NMax 155 on equal grounds. The latter, just like the Yamaha R15 v3.0 sold in India, uses a VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology.

V-TEC will help the Honda PCX 150 be more fuel-efficient as well produce increased output across all rev-range.

The next-generation Honda PCX 150 with V-TEC can be expected to be more fuel-efficient. V-TEC can also help in reducing emissions as well as increase performance across all engine speeds. The all-new Honda PCX 150 is also expected to be sharper in terms of looks. However, it won't look an offbeat product like the Honda ADV 150.

At present, the Honda PCX 150 is powered by a 149.3 cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine. The powerplant can produce 14.7 PS of power and 13.2 Nm of torque. The engine is fitted with Honda Enhanced Smart Power (eSP) technology. eSP is also set to make its way to the Indian market in the new BS-VI compliant Honda Activa 125. As per the company, eSP maximises efficient combustion and minimizing friction with a silent start and smooth eco-friendly engine.

The features list of the Honda PCX 150 includes all-LED lighting, digital instrumentation, large 28.8-litre under-seat storage and Honda Smart Key System. Like in the current generation, there will likely be a 125 cc version for Europe in the next generation.

The Honda PCX Electric was showcased in India at Auto Expo 2018.

The Honda PCX 150's prices in Indonesia start at IDR 28.93 million (INR 1.45 lakhs). The Honda PCX 150 is not expected to be launched in India anytime soon. The Honda PCX Electric was showcased in concept form at Auto Expo 2018.
