At the MIAS 2018 last month, Lada took the wraps off the 4x4 Vision concept, previewing the design of the next generation model. IAB's illustrator Shoeb Kalania has rendered it in production form.

Next Gen Lada 4x4 Iab Rendering
The new Lada 4x4 was previewed conceputally last month at the Moscow auto exhibition. The design direction of the 41-year old model's replacement comes after much soul searching for the Renault-owned company.

The next-gen Lada 4x4 in its road-going version has mellowed-down styling. It features a simple grille design, conventional headlamps, fog lamps and rear doors, smaller wheels and such other changes typical of a budget SUV. As depicted in the rendering, the modern-day Russian UV will have an upright nose, flat bonnet and a notably high waistline for a very a virile character.

While one half of the Russian media report that the next-gen 4x4 will ride on a updated B0/Logan platform, others say that it would get a special platform with longitudinal engine mounts to please its target customers. One thing is for sure - it will have a bigger body than its predecessor. While a significant drop in the demand for a 3-door version is observed globally, Russia is an exception. Still, 3-door UVs have unlocked potential, case in point, the Suzuki Jimny.

The fully redesigned Lada 4x4 will employ Nissan's HR16 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. AvtoVAZ, which produces Lada models, has received approval from the Alliance for this engine's full-cycle production.

Lada is reportedly undecided which way mechanically the 4X4/Niva must go. A longitudinal layout would please existing customers, but a transverse layout would largely expand its customer base into Russian metros.

The all-new Lada 4x4 is said to arrive by 2022. To an extent, it may compete with the Suzuki Jimny, which underwent a full model change in July. Expect features from modern day cars such as LED daytime running lights, passive keyless entry, engine start-stop button, automatic climate control, cruise control, touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav and smartphone integration capability, multifunction steering wheel, parking camera, front and side airbags and more in the renewed model.
