Next-gen Mitsubishi Mirage to debut in H2 2019 - Report

Mitsubishi is working on an all-new Mirage to strengthen its presence in the B-segment market. According to a report from Headlightmag, the new generation model will debut towards the end of this year.

The next-gen Mitsubishi Mirage will likely ride on the CMF-B platform.

The first generation Mitsubishi Mirage was unveiled at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show. The second generation model is expected to break cover at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show that will take place from 23 October-4 November.

The rendering presented by the Thai publication suggests that moving to its second generation, the Mitsubishi Mirage will grow substantially with an aggressive design that brings it closer to rest of the Mitsubishi models in the looks department. Trevor Mann, COO, Mitsubishi, has said that the redesigned sub-compact car will likely sit on the CMF-B platform, which debuted in the Mk5 Renault Clio recently.

“So the Alliance has a platform which it calls CMF-B, so it’s likely that the next Mirage will be on the CMF-B platform, but not decided yet,” Mann told GoAutoNews in November last year.

The Mitsubishi Mirage, also known as the Mitsubishi Space Star, is available as a sedan. Even in the second generation, it should have a 4-door version going against the Mazda2 Sedan, Hyundai Accent (Hyundai Verna), Honda City and the Toyota Vios.

In addition to an all-new Mirage, an all-new Lancer is also planned. “It wouldn’t necessarily be on the Megane platform, if we are talking about passenger vehicles, depending on the size, it would be on the CMF-C platform,” Mann has said.

Mitsubishi is planning to scale up its business in India with the launch of the latest Pajero Sport and the Eclipse Cross. Moreover, the company is considering the Xpander for our market. The next-gen Mirage, however, may never reach here because of the CMF-B platform, though, unless the company were to use a dual-spec platform strategy like Renault.
