The next-gen Toyota Yaris has leaked ahead of its world premiere at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show this month. The upcoming sub-compact hatchback was seen without any camouflage or disguise at the Toyota Technical Centre Shimoyama in Toyota (a city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan).

The next-gen Toyota Yaris is slated to break cover at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.

With the full model change, the Toyota Yaris has adopted a broader, squatter stance like all other recent global Toyota cars. Its redesigned prominent grille layout, sportier front bumper with more pronounced outer ends, sleeker headlamps and flared-up wheel arches give it a much more aggressive look. The overall profile seems to be less top-heavy, and that's because of its TNGA-derived GA-B platform.

The 2020 Toyota Yaris seen here is the smallest TNGA model and the first one to utilise the GA-B version of the advanced architecture. This platform will allow it to have a lower centre of gravity and offer better driving dynamics.

The next-gen Toyota Yaris's specifications are unknown at the moment, but we do expect it to be longer, wider and shorter, given the facts that it has some room to grow and that it's a TNGA product. Toyota's staple 8NR-FTS 1.2L turbocharged petrol mill is a given, and so is a Hybrid variant, likely packing the outgoing car's 1NZ-FXE 1.5L ICE and 1LM electric motor in an enhanced version.

The 2020 Toyota Yaris will be targeted mainly at developed markets, such as European countries and Japan. TNGA hasn't been localised in India, as it's too expensive for our market. Toyota is unlikely to launch any originally Toyota hatchbacks in India in the foreseeable future. It will continue leveraging its partnership with Suzuki in that aspect.
