Expected to arrive in 2018.

Germany's AutoBild magazine has carried a rendering of the next generation BMW 3 Series on the cover of its recent edition. Codenamed BMW G20, the executive saloon is expected to arrive in showrooms in 2018.

The spyshots depict an exterior that borrows cues from the BMW Vision Luxury Concept.

It seems that the next 3 series will borrow cues from the BMW Vision Luxury Concept. The headlights as well as the kidney grilles are sharper than the current 3 Series, and the bumper has also been redesigned.

As with all future RWD models from BMW, the next 3 Series will ride on the CLAR modular platform that integrates materials like carbon fiber, aluminum and high strength steel. It's expected to be significantly lighter than the current 3 Series, and will rival the aluminum-based Jaguar XE.

As with all future RWD models from BMW, the next 3 Series will ride on the CLAR modular platform from the 7 Series.

The next 3 Series could get BMW's B-family range of engines that include a 1.5-liter three cylinder turbo, 2.0-liter four cylinder petrol and diesel lineup and a range-topping M340i variant with a 3.0-liter inline six engine. An 8-speed automatic could be standard.
