Could share powertrains with the Renault Captur (also based on Duster platform).

According to sources of Autocar India, the India-spec Nissan Kicks will be based on the highly localised Renault Duster platform, rather than the V platform that underpins the Brazilian Kicks.

The India-spec Nissan Kicks will share the Duster's M0 platform and components with the Renault Captur.

Codenamed PB1D, the India-spec Nissan Kicks will likely share the Duster's M0 platform and components with the Renault Captur SUV, which is expected to launch later this year. Like the Duster and Terrano, both the Renault Captur and Nissan Kicks SUVs will also share their engines, which may include a 1.6L 4-cyl petrol engine and the 1.5L 4-cyl K9K diesel with slight power bump.

The similarities will stop there, as the two models will feature distinctive exterior and interior designs. The Nissan Kicks will mirror the styling of its South American cousin, featuring contemporary touches like a floating roof, massive wheel arches and a wraparound visor look. In Brazil, the Kicks is offered with options of a dual-tone exterior, which could also be made available India.

The Kicks is reported to launch in India in Q3 2018; quite a long time away for anybody looking forward to a crossover as their next purchase. It will rival the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, Mahindra S201 and the Honda BR-V.
