Nissan is working on a new global SUV on the basis of the third-gen Nissan Navara. IAB has got its hands on an internal document and can reveal the specifications and new details of the SUV.

The Nissan Navara-based SUV will sell as the next-gen Nissan Paladin in China.

The Nissan Navara-based SUV will go on sale in China first. Nissan will sell this model as the next-gen Paladin. The Nissan Navara-based SUV is internally known by the codename ‘Nissan P60A’. The body-on-frame SUV is 4,885 mm long, 1,865 mm wide and 1,835 mm tall. It has a 2,850 mm wheelbase.

Under the hood, the Nissan Navara-based SUV will have the QR25 engine. This applies to China only, and in other markets, Nissan should offer a diesel engine. Nissan offers the QR25 engine in multiple iterations depending on the model and the market. In the Chinese-spec Nissan Navara, the naturally aspirated mill produces 135 kW (184 PS) and 236 Nm (2WD)/251 Nm (4WD) of torque. Transmission choices for the SUV will include 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic. Nissan plans to offer 4WD option only in the top-tier configurations with automatic transmission.

While the QR25 engine may work in petrol-preferring regions such as the Middle East, Nissan will require a diesel option to crack the ASEAN markets, as well as Australia and New Zealand. The Navara is available with 2.3-litre turbocharged diesel, 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel and 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engines. The company could select one of these three for the Navara-based SUV.

In markets other than China, Nissan may introduce the Nissan Navara-based SUV as the next-gen Nissan Xterra. The U.S. market will probably have a different model for this segment. A recent report said that the next-gen Nissan Frontier won't have much in common with the current Nissan Navara. This is the model will likely spawn the next-gen Nissan Xterra for the USA, if planned.

The Nissan Navara-based SUV will share its engines with the Nissan Navara.

In China, Nissan will manufacture the Nissan Navara-based SUV at the Zhengzhou Nissan JV factory. That is where its spy shot exposed its final design recently. For other Asian markets and Oceania, production could take place alongside the Nissan Navara in Samutprakarn, Thailand. The Nissan Navara-based SUV's world debut will take place at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show in April.
