The Nissan Terrano went on sale just hours ago. In a media briefing that was held in Chennai today, Indian Autos Blog was informed by Mr. Kenichiro Yomura, CEO of Nissan India, that the Terrano has already found 6,000 bookings across India.

The Terrano was launched in India today from INR 9.58 lakhs to INR 12.44 lakhs (ex-Showroom, Chennai).

Just to refresh your memory, Nissan commenced the pre-booking of the Terrano on September 1, wherein interested customers could book the car by paying an advance of INR 50,000. As it turns out, there were about 6,000 such interested customers.

We have heard that Nissan is currently making 3,000 Terranos every month at the Oragadam plant. As a result, customers booking their car today will have to wait for about 2 months before they can take delivery. Based on these numbers, it seems that the Terrano could be the best cross-badged Renault-Nissan product out there (considering that the Renault Scala and Pulse haven't really made a serious sales impact for Renault in India).

With over 6,000 bookings, the Terrano already has a 2 month waiting period.

One of the reasons for these bookings (though they're initial booking figures) can be attributed to the way Nissan has segmented the Terrano: Even the base model is available with a driver airbag as standard.

Stay tuned for our next update on the Terrano which deals with its official accessories, including steering mounted audio controls, a touchscreen multimedia system and so on.
