The previous generation of the Opel Corsa was one of the cars that failed to set its feet firm on the Indian soil and as a result it was soon forgotten.

The Opel brand as a whole performed so poorly that it was ultimately forced to vacate the sub continent. And now a current generation of the Opel Corsa (hatchback) was spotted doing test rounds within the confines of Bengaluru. Our avid reader Mr. Amruth Ganesh sent in these spyshots.

We don't think Opel is really mulling a re-entry into Indian market but there is a possible explanation for the spotting though. The marque is a subsidiary of GM and GM has a technical center in Bengaluru. It is likely that the test mule belongs to the technical center and the car is a part of global testing operations.

The Opel Corsa's platform was developed jointly by GM and Fiat during the years the companies were together. The car shares its platform with the Fiat Grande Punto. Another interesting trivia is that the test mule spotted is a two door Ecoflex variant which uses the ubiquitous 1.3 litre MultiJet engine which was also jointly developed by GM and Fiat.

It is to be noted that this is not the first time an Opel test mule was spotted in India. A test mule of Opel Insignia was also spotted testing earlier.
