Porsche commences production of Porsche 718 Cayman
Deliveries to start in September in Europe.
Porsche has announced that they have commenced mass production of the all new Porsche 718 Cayman at their factory in Zuffenhausen. Deliveries of the compact mid-engined sports car will commence from September for the European markets.
Unveiled at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, the Porsche 718 Cayman features a small-yet-evolutionary upgrade to the exterior and interior, as compared to the outgoing Cayman. It is now part of the entry level '718' range, which also includes the Porsche 718 Boxster that debuted at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
One of the biggest highlights of the Porsche 718 Cayman is the all new four cylinder turbo petrol engine. It's available in two variants at launch: 718 Cayman and 718 Cayman S. The former packs a 2.0L turbocharged four cylinder boxer engine with 300 hp, while the latter has a 2.5L version of the same engine that produces 350 hp.
The new engines are not only more fuel efficient than the older flat six engine, but 25 hp more powerful than both respective variants. The 718 Cayman can be had with a 7-speed PDK gearbox or a 6-speed manual unit. With the PDK and Sport chrono package, the Porsche 718 Cayman S can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds, and hit a top speed of 177 mph (283 km/h).
