IAB has learned that Porsche India will launch the Porsche Macan in July.

Two variants of the Macan have been confirmed for India - the 400 hp 3.6-liter V6 petrol and the 258 hp 3.0-liter V6 diesel. The high level of specification of the variants don't warrant ARAI homologation for them to be legally sold in India, reducing or preventing delays to the launch. The vehicle would be brought to the country through the CBU route.

Being range topping variants, the Macan would be comprehensively loaded, and a suite of customization options would also be available to customers who seek further individuality.

The Macan was launched simultaneously at the Tokyo Motor Show and the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 20, 2013. The company is using a top-down strategy, launching the V6 variants first, followed by four-cylinder options sometime next year.

The car is based on a heavily modified Audi Q5 platform measuring 4,699 mm long, 1,923 mm wide and 1,624 mm tall which makes it 146 mm shorter, 16 mm narrower and 82 mm lower than the Cayenne. Production of the Macan began in February at an expanded Leipzig plant, which received an investment of 500 million Euros (INR 4,194 crore) to unlock the extra capacity.
