Prices of the Jeep Compass to start from INR 18 Lakhs - Report

Launch reported to take place later this month.

According to News18, prices of the Jeep Compass will start from INR 18 Lakhs (ex-showroom) for the base Compass Sport variant. Bookings are currently open across dealerships, for INR 1 lakh, in seven cities: Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Kochi, Kolkata, while dealerships will spring up in other cities shortly. While the launch was originally slated for August, the report says it would be finished this month.

The status of the Jeep brand in India relies on the pricing of the Compass and the volumes that it brings thereafter.

It is not surprising that FCA can price it so competitively, given that the Compass is manufactured at a high localisation in India. Plus it is the product that FCA hopes will sell in good numbers and establish the Jeep brand, so making it affordable would have buyers from the lower segment (prospects of the top-spec Hyundai Creta and the Mahindra XUV500) very interested.

The starting price is for the base Compass Sport grade, which comes with 16-inch steel wheels, halogen headlamps, all-black interior, electric parking brake, 5.0-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, front airbags, ESC, TCS, ABS with EBD, and four disc brakes.

Other variants include Longitude, Longitude (O), Limited which have LED tail lamps, door scuff plates, Ski Grey interior, leather steering wheel, leather seats and a rear-view camera. Limited (O) sub-grade adds HID headlamps and black roof. You can get the full lowdown on the variant-wise equipment here.

The Tata-FCA plant in Ranjangaon that manufactures the Compass will export it to all RHD markets.

At launch, the Compass will be available with a 2.0-litre Diesel engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. The petrol variant with the 1.4L 4-cyl engine and a diesel automatic with a 9-speed transmission will come at a later time.
