Production of India-bound Nissan Kicks starts in Mexico

Nissan has commenced production of the India-bound Nissan Kicks at the Nissan Kicks in Mexico. The Nissan Kicks is manufactured at the Nissan Aguascalientes A1 plant in the country.

The Nissan Kicks is based on the Nissan V platform.

The Nissan Aguascalientes A1 plant builds Mexican plant builds the Nissan Kicks with 90% local components. The same plant builds the Nissan Sentra, Nissan Note, Nissan March (Nissan Micra) and Nissan Versa (Nissan Sunny). The plan is to start sales first in Latin America, and then expand to 80+ countries around the world.

The Nissan Kicks is based on the Nissan V platform that forms basis for the Nissan March (Micra), Nissan Versa, Nissan Sentra and Nissan Note. In its first market, Brazil, it's powered by a 1.6-litre flex-fuel (petrol-ethanol) engine that produces 114 cv (114 hp) at 5,600 rpm and 15.5 kgf.m (152.00 Nm) of torque at 4,000 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via the Xtronic continuously variable transmission.

Though unconfirmed, the Nissan Kicks is in the Indian business plan, but in a significantly different package. The India-spec Nissan Kicks (codename: Nissan PB1D) will reportedly ride on the Nissan CMF-B platform that will underpin the second generation Nissan Juke and the next gen Renault Duster as well.
