Production Lamborghini Urus makes spy photo debut

Lamborghini's "game-changer" shows up on Denmark's roads.

Earlier this week it was reported that the Lamborghini Urus' pre-series production would start in April 2017. In the latest, the first spy shots of the production Lamborghini Urus have surfaced on the web, courtesy pro-street.dk.

At launch, the Lamborghini Urus will be offered with a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 petrol engine.

The spy shots, which show the SUV's profile and rear-end, indicate that Lamborghini Urus has not changed much from the concept form in the production version. The production Urus retains the Urus concept's radical design and athletic character while seeing minor changes like conventional door mirrors replacing the small side view rear cameras, the addition of integrated roof rails and modification of the rear bumper to fit the circular exhaust tips which replace the trapezoidal exhaust tips.

The Lamborghini Urus was spied testing in Denmark along with the next-gen Audi A8 and the Audi Q8, both of which will share the Audi Q7's MLB-Evo platform with it. The Urus will be a petrol-only model, as Lamborghini has no plans to offer a diesel engine.

At launch, the unique performance SUV will be offered with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, but later during its lifecycle, a plug-in hybrid variant - the first for a production Lamborghini - will be launched. It will offer multiple drive modes, one of which will allow the driver to adjust the vehicle's certain components like powertrain, steering and suspension individually, in a way similar to the Lamborghini Aventador S' EGO mode.

The Lamborghini Urus is planned to launch internationally in 2018. The production version is said to have its world premiere at Auto Shanghai 2017 in April. Privileged customers will get a private preview in advance in Sant'Agata Bolognese, the Italian town where the exotic SUV will be built.

Around 3,000 units of the Lamborghini Urus will be produced annually, and their distribution will be well balanced among three regions: EMEA, the Americas and Asia Pacific, with USA, China, the Middle East, UK, Germany and Russia being the primary markets. Pavan Shetty, Ex-CEO of Lamborghini India, has hinted that India may also be one of the markets to get the Urus.
