Priced lower than the road-legal R1.

Yamaha Motor Company has revealed the track-bred model of the Yamaha R1, online. It is a stripped-down version of the street-legal R1 and is priced lower at 1,944,000 yen (£10,500 / INR 10.58 lakhs).

The race edition of the 2016 R1 will be available for purchase only in Japan, until December 21.

Built solely for the racing teams, the race-spec R1 is devoid of the road-oriented equipment that is offered on the regular version. This has made it less expensive compared to the latter and easier to mod and tune. It is based on the European-spec R1, not the R1M, as it is typically expected of the buyers to swap out components like suspension for higher-spec, race-oriented parts. Hence, this R1 lacks features such as a pillion seat, a registration plate hanger, rear view mirrors, and body graphics.

Like the race-focussed R1, the track-specific R6 is based on its European road-ready model although it will be sold only in Japan.

The Yamaha R1 race edition can be purchased only through selected race bike dealers in Japan. Only a limited number of units will be sold, exclusively to bonafide race teams. The booking will remain open only until December 21.

Similarly, Yamaha will soon offer a race-spec version of the European Yamaha R6, orderbooks of which will also be closed on December 21. Like the R1, it will be on sale only in Japan, and it will have a price tag of 918,000 yen (£5000 / INR 4.99 lakhs).
