Royal Enfield to use Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres for its 650 twins

Further strengthening the collaboration between Royal Enfield and Pirelli, the tyre maker announced that the new models- Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor INT 650, recently presented at EICMA, will fit Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp as original equipment tyres.

Royal Enfield has designed the Interceptor for laid-back riding.

The 650 twins are the latest motorcycles to sport Pirelli tyres. For the Himalayan, another Pirelli tyre, the MT 60 was selected, while Pirelli Sport Demon was chosen for the Continental GT. For the 650 twins, Pirelli will supply the Phantom Sportscomp in 100/90 – 18 M/C 56H TL for the front; and 130/70 – 18 M/C 63H TL for the rear. The Sportscomp is part of a line of historical tyres of the Pirelli Sport Classic range, which includes also the MT 60 and Sport Demon models. Motorcycle manufacturers and customizers choose these tyres to equip modern cafe racers, medium-powered custom bikes and modern classics.

Pirelli says the strengths of this tyre include the easy handling and change in direction; stable and predictable behaviour under acceleration and braking; being able to transmit power to the ground and regular wear combined to excellent mileage.

Both the bikes use the same tyre specification for front and rear.

In celebration of the collaboration with the motorcycle maker, the Pirelli Motorcycle Testing Department has reached Khardung La Pass with two Himalayan motorcycles shod with Pirelli MT 60 tyres. At 17,582 feet high, it has long been considered the highest vehicle-accessible pass in the world.
