Royal Enfield 650 Twins clock 1069-unit sales in January 2019
The Royal Enfield 650 Twins have managed to clock sales of 1069 units in January 2019. The numbers are more than the sum of total bikes sold by competitors like KTM 390 Duke, BMW G 310 R, Bajaj Dominar 400 and the TVS Apache RR 310.
The Royal Enfield 650 Twins went on sale in India in mid-November last year, and deliveries started later that month. These are impressive numbers considering the premium positioning and the segment. The 650 Twins have caught the fancy of not only the Indian enthusiasts but also the masses from developed markets. Such has been the success that Royal Enfield is witnessing a waiting period of up to six months.
Furthermore, the company has also ramped-up production capacity of the Royal Enfield 650 Twins, to meet the increasing demands. The company sold 325 units of the 650 Twins in November last year, while it doubled the sales to 629 units in December 2018. Interestingly, its the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is the one that has been garnering more interest from buyers.
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 retails at INR 2.50 lakh* for the base model. The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, on the other hand, starts at INR 2.65 lakh*. In some states like Kerala and Karnataka, where state taxes are higher for vehicle registration, the ex-showroom prices start from INR 2.33 lakh* and INR 2.49 lakh* for the Interceptor and the GT 650, respectively, to keep the on-road price below INR 3 lakh.

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 offers the pure motorcycling pleasure with its easy-going riding manners, while the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is for the purists with its sharp handling and aggressive ergonomics. Both the bikes are powered by a 648cc parallel-twin motor that is mated to a six-speed gearbox. The engine is good for 47 bhp of power and 52 Nm of peak torque.
