Royal Enfield Himalayan to feature dual-channel ABS - Report

As per a report from ZigWheels, the Royal Enfield portfolio is likely soon to be equipped with ABS, but only the Royal Enfield Himalayan is likely to get the more advanced dual channel unit.

In the UK, the brand sells the Himalayan with dual-channel ABS.

The website reports that the Classic and the Thunderbird range will get single-channel ABS. Unlike a single channel unit which works only on the front wheel, dual channel ABS functions for both the wheels. This ensures greater safety. The Royal Enfield 650 twins however are likely to feature dual-channel ABS. As per the media site, the price for the bikes with single-channel ABS will be INR 5,000 more than the non-ABS version. The Himalayan will reportedly witness a price hike between INR 10,000 to INR 12,000.

To recap, RE launched the fuel-injected version of the Himalayan in September last year. In January this year, the Sleet Edition entered the Indian market. The Himalayan’s 411 cc single cylinder with air and oil cooling is good for 24.5 bhp at 6,500 rpm. Peak torque of 32 Nm kicks in at 4,250 rpm. The engine pairs with a 5-speed transmission.

The Thunderbird 350X and 500X entered the market in February, this year.

The rivals for the Classic and Thunderbird range include the UM Renegade series, Bajaj Dominar 400, TVS Apache RR 310, and Honda CBR 250R. The Himalayan’s only rival in the small-capacity adventure bike segment is the Kawasaki Versys-X 300, which comes with dual-channel ABS.
