The report further adds that the new Thunderbird X is next in line for the ABS upgrade. Meanwhile, there is no official announcement from Royal Enfield about the India launch of ABS-equipped Himalayan.

Rudratej Singh (Rudy), President - Royal Enfield had confirmed at the launch of the Classic 350 Signals edition that the Himalayan and other RE 500 cc motorcycles would receive ABS variants in September. He added that the complete Royal Enfield line-up would be updated with dual-channel ABS by the end of 2018. The Government has set April 1, 2019, as the deadline to equip the complete product portfolio with ABS.

Apart from the addition of ABS, the motorcycle continues to use the same hardware as the standard model. The Himalayan comes equipped with a BS4-compliant 411 cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled, fuel injected engine that is tuned to deliver 24.5 bhp of maximum power at 6500 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 4250 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

The motorcycle continues to use the conventional telescopic front forks and a monoshock suspension at the rear. A 300 mm single disc at the front and a 240 mm unit at the rear provide stopping power. The motorcycle continues to feature 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combination that is aimed to improve its off-roading capabilities. The wire-spoked wheels are wrapped in dual purpose tires for a balance between on-road and off-road riding.

Apart from the addition of ABS, Royal Enfield Himalayan continues to use all the features from the standard model.
