Royal Enfield Himalayan to cost between INR 1.65 – Rs 1.85 lakhs - Report

Sources close to Royal Enfield have divulged to Zigwheels that the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan will launch in November 2015, and priced very competitively. It's expected to cost between INR 1.65 – Rs 1.85 lakhs.

Powering the Royal Enfield Himalayan is, reportedly, an all new single cylinder, 410 cc, oil-cooled, four-stroke, overhead cam motor.

Spyshots have indicated is based on a single tube chassis, and shares design cues with the Royal Enfield Continental GT, as seen in the headlights, fuel tank, dual discs and instrument cluster. The rear end gets a newly designed subframe with brackets for saddle bags and an upswept exhaust. Suspension duties are performed by mono shock setup (first for an RE) for the rear, and telescopic front fork with long travel for tackling rough terrains.

Powering the Royal Enfield Himalayan is, reportedly, an all new single cylinder, 410 cc, oil-cooled, four-stroke, overhead cam motor making nearly 29 bhp and 32 Nm of torque. The source claims that RE is still tuning the engine, and power figures could be slightly different when launched. The engine will be paired to a 6-speed unit.

When launched, the Royal Enfield Himalayan will setup a new segment, as there are no 400cc adventure tourer bikes available in the market. The only adventure-centric offerings are the Bajaj Pulsar AS twins in the 150-200 cc segment, and niche tourers from brands like Triumph and Ducati in the 800 cc and above segment.
