Royal Enfield Himalayan snapped testing in nearly production-ready avatar - Spied

Expected to launch later this year, or in early-2016.

A reader of AutoX snapped these images of a nearly-production ready prototype of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, reported to be the name of the brand's adventure touring motorcycle.

The Himalayan is expected to be powered by a 410 cc or a 750 cc engine.

As can be seen, the motorcycle gets large off-road rubber mounted on spoke wheels, front and rear disc brakes, a high-mounted front mudguard with a long-travel telescopic suspension, a wind deflector, an exhaust pointing upwards (which should further aid in its off-roadability) and brackets to mount luggage.

According to reports, the Himalayan could be powered either by a 410 cc engine or a 750 cc twin-cylinder engine, both having been developed by the company's technical center in Chennai which received an investment of INR 500 Cr recently. The investment also sees Royal Enfield ramping its production capacity to 50,000 units/annum next year.

It remains to be seen of the motorcycle is built on an all-new platform or derives its underpinnings from the GT.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan is expected to launch towards the end of this year or early next year. If Royal Enfield opts for an early-2016 introduction, it could showcase the product at the India Bike Week 2016 (Royal Enfield will not participate in the Auto Expo 2016) which takes place in Goa. Analysts expect it to cost around INR 2.5 lakhs, ex-Showroom when launched.
