The Royal Enfield's maiden appearance in Australia will take place tomorrow at the Moto Expo, Melbourne.

The Himalayan, which was unveiled in India just before the Auto Expo, is a step away from tradition. Fans may have been taking Bullets and Classics to tough mountainous terrain for a long time but the Himalayan is their first true on-off road bike.

Royal Enfield Australia has been registering interest of prospective customers of the Himalayan since early October through its website and the bike will hit dealerships late this year. The Himalayan was also recently showcased in Milan during EICMA with a Euro4 compliant engine and ABS-assisted brakes.

The Himalayan is powered by a 411 cc single cylinder mill churning out 24.5 bhp of maximum power at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm of torque peaking in the range of 4,000 to 4,500 rpm. The carbureted bike is mated with a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox. The Himalayan is at present available in two paint schemes, Snow (White) and Graphite (Black).
