Royal Enfield working on three new platforms - Report

In an interview with Autocar, Royal Enfield CEO Siddhartha Lal revealed that the brand is working on three new platforms.

One of the platforms will likely be for an adventure motorcycle.

Lal added that one or two of them will replace the existing ones when tighter emission norms come into effect. It could be possible that one of the new platforms would be for an adventure motorcycle, in line with the company’s plans of bringing in a bigger-engined Himalayan. Lal also revealed that the company is not shying away from developing an electric motorcycle; and will do so, in due course of time. However, the company is not looking to jump on the electric bandwagon in the near future.

Royal Enfield recently unveiled its all-new 650cc engine at its UK tech centre. This followed with the official reveal of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Twin and the Continental GT Twin at the 2017 EICMA. The company is bullish about making its presence felt in the foreign markets with the new motorcycles. The bikes are slated for launch in the European markets first, and then the Indian market. The bikes will go on sale in Europe in April 2018.

With the 650cc offerings, Royal Enfield believes it can capture the mid-capacity market overseas.

The company is also planning to bolster its presence in the ASEAN and Latin American markets in three to five years.
