Seventh-gen 2021 Hyundai Elantra breaks cover, could reach India in H2 2021
The all-new, 2021 Hyundai Elantra has been officially unveiled. The seventh-gen Hyundai Elantra (codename: Hyundai CN7) may hit the Indian showrooms in the second half of 2021.
The 2021 Hyundai Elantra is as striking and sporty as a Hyundai sedan gets. From every angle, it’s razor-sharp and outright aggressive. The ready-to-attack exterior is characterised with a gigantic Parametric Jewel pattern grille flanked by visibly long headlamps that are upswept and go way back, angular bumpers, edgy character lines and greenhouse, striking rear lights connected via a full-width light strip that results in a Hyundai flying H logo-like shape and an integrated ducktail spoiler.
On the inside, the 2021 Hyundai Elantra has the most driver-oriented cockpit seen in a Hyundai sedan to the date. The interior layout has been rightly named ‘Immersive Cocoon’. The ultra-sleek dashboard, centre console and floor console have been harmoniously integrated with a floating effect. The virtually full-width AC vent at the front might remind you of executive and full-size luxury cars.
The minimalist interior comprises what appears to be a more compact steering wheel and a (10.25-inch) configurable fully digital instrument cluster merged with the (10.25-inch) touchscreen infotainment system in Mercedes-Benz-style. From a distance, one might see barely any usage of buttons and other physical controls for the usual comfort and entertainment functions. That’s because many of them have been cleverly placed in an upward-facing manner.
The daring design of the Mk7 Hyundai Elantra should be complemented with improved practicality, comfort and efficiency. Based on the third-gen K3 platform, it is lighter, more efficient and stronger, and has a lower centre of gravity for more agile handling. The all-new model measures 4,650 mm in length, 1,825 mm in width and 1,420 mm in height. It has a 2,720 mm wheelbase.
In South Korea, the all-new Honda Civic rival will be available with a 1.6L MPi petrol engine producing 123 PS and 15.7 kgf.m (153.96 Nm) of torque and a 1.6-litre LPi petrol-LPG engine developing 120 PS and 15.5 (152.00 Nm) of torque. In the USA, a 2.0L MPi petrol engine good for 147 HP (149.10 PS) and 132 lb.-ft. (178.97 Nm) of torque and paired with a CVT will be standard. However, there will be a Hybrid variant - a first for a Hyundai Elantra.
The first-ever Hyundai Elantra Hybrid will make use of a 1.6-litre GDi petrol engine, a 32 kW electric motor, a 6-speed DCT and a 1.32 kWh battery pack. The hybrid powertrain will offer 139 HP (140.98 PS) and 195 lb.-ft. (264.38 Nm) of torque. It is expected to deliver a fuel economy of 50 MPG (21.26 km/l).
