Skoda Yeti gets a bold new successor looking like a smaller Skoda Kodiaq.

Skoda has unveiled the Skoda Karoq, the spiritual successor to the Skoda Yeti. Here's a visual comparison between the Skoda Karoq and Skoda Yeti. Interior images will be updated when we receive them.

Measuring 4,382 mm in length, 1,841 mm in width and 1,605 mm in height, the Karoq is 60 mm longer, 48 mm wider and 86 mm lower than the Yeti.

The Skoda Yeti - the brand's first SUV - was criticised for its polarising looks and its offbeat design was a let down for many. However, the practicality, quality and features it offered made it an overseas success, with 600,000+ units sold. Skoda aims to achieve much more with the Skoda Karoq, which is purposely conventionally designed with inspiration from the Skoda Vision S concept. It's longer, wider and squatter, just the way customers like their crossovers.

The Skoda Yeti's platform basis is basically a previous generation Skoda Octavia with shorter overhangs and a new upper structure. The Skoda Karoq, which was developed along with the Seat Ateca under the Polaris Project, utilises the new MQB architecture. Skoda has confirmed five engine options for the Karoq: 85 kW (115 PS) 1.0-litre TSI petrol, 110 kW (150 PS) 1.5-litre TSI petrol, 85 kW (115 PS) 1.6-litre TDI diesel, 110 kW (150 PS) 2.0-litre TDI diesel and 140 kW (190 PS) 2.0-litre TDI diesel. Transmission choices include 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG, and an all-wheel drive system is available.

Full-LED headlights, LED fog lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED tail and brake lights, digital instrument panel with four layouts, 9.2-inch Columbus infotainment system with 64 GB storage, DVD/CD drive, navigation and gesture control, Skoda Phonebox for wireless charging and enhanced cellular connectivity and electrically adjustable and heated seats are the equipment highlights of the Skoda Karoq.

The Skoda Karoq will hit the European markets in the second half of 2017.
