Report - India-fit Skoda Octavia CNG variant announced for Europe

Skoda will launch the Octavia with a natural gas engine for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Sales of CNG cars are drying up in India, but many manufacturers have not stopped investing in the technology or launching products, as they consider it a good long-term bet.

The Octavia G-TEC will be the second Skoda model after the Citigo to be powered by the environmentally-friendly engine. The CNG variant will be available for both Octavia saloon and Octavia Combi model.

The New ŠKODA Octavia G-TEC

Doing its duty on the new Skoda Octavia G-TEC is a 1.4 TSI turbo petrol engine which churns out 110 hp. The bivalent engine is engineered to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and petrol. The G-TEC package is compliant with Euro6 emission standards and includes a Start-Stop System and regenerative braking for maximizing fuel efficiency.

The new Octavia G-TEC has a range of 410 km on CNG and 920 km on petrol, which translates to a total range of 1,330 km in one filling.

Along with the Octavia G-TEC, Skoda will also showcase the Skoda Octavia Scout, the VisionC concept, and 12 other exhibits at the Geneva exposition.
