More images and info on the Skoda Rapid for Europe
Here are some more images and data on the Skoda Rapid unveiled for Europe. The Rapid's official premiere will be conducted at the Paris Motor Show in September, but Skoda sources were in the mood to get a little chatty to Autoforum.cz about their upcoming product.
The base models will be powered by a 1.2-liter 86hp engine that is paired to a 5-speed manual tranny. This engine lets the European Skoda Rapid accelerate to 100kph in 11.8 seconds.
There's a second 1.2 TSI engine that outputs 105 hp and 175 Nm of torque. The higher outputs bring up the 100kph mark in 10.3 seconds and lets the car accelerate till 195 kph.
The most powerful petrol engine of the lot, the 1.4TSI, is paired to a seven-speed DSG. This engine delivers 122hp and 200Nm of torque. The 10 second barrier is broken for the 0-100kph sprint and the top speed stands at an impressive 206kph.
Two diesel engine choices are presented, but the displacement does not vary. The milder 1.6-liter CRDI engine delivers 90hp/230 Nm while the stronger state of tune sends out 105hp/250Nm.
These images also highlight the changes to the interior. Compared to the Indian Rapid, the European model's upper dashboard is revised. The quality, design and finish is very neat with a modified steering wheel, new AC vents and chrome inserts. The green backlight has however not changed.
The rear of the car is completely different including a split-seat design and three headrests. The liftback design provides unmatched loading easiness, and much larger luggage volume. We don't have the exact statistics at the moment, but we also suspect that the car's wheelbase is lengthened.
Skoda India is still deciding if the European Rapid can be brought to India to be positioned over the current model.
