Skoda Superb wins COTY Award 2009 in Czech Republic

The Skoda Superb has won 'Car of The Year 2009' award in its home turf Czech Republic. It has won the first place in 'Middle and Upper Middle class' Category, beating 42 competitors.

The Skoda Superb is a very popular car amongst locals. Every Skoda is a class topper in Czech to be exact. It also won the towcar awards earlier last year, and then came Sky's Best Gadget award for its Parking Assist.

The Skoda Superb model which has won the award is a new version which is expected to launch in Indian market very soon, Skoda India is continuously testing the car in Indian environment which can be seen from some of the spy shots.

A Jury of 23 and 70,047 of the general public was involved in deciding the Skoda Superb as Car of the Year 2009.

"It is a good sign for us, especially in these difficult times. Winning ‘Car of the Year 2009’ in the Czech Republic shows that we have gained confidence of both Czech journalists and customers. What is crucial for us is that we offer a product of excellent quality. The Škoda Superb is the result of great teamwork at Škoda.

There's no doubt that the Superb is really a 'superb' product from Czech car maker. The new Superb will come with all new exteriors and interiors including some useful features like its boot, which gives double dimension to the rear- as a notchback and also as a saloon.

We expect its price to be around 20-24 lakhs giving direct competition to Accord, Camry and its own sister car, the Volkswagen Passat.

Škoda Superb named "Car of the Year 2009

The Škoda Superb car has won the jubilee fifteenth year of the "Car of the Year 2009 in the Czech Republic" competition, in which 42 novelties in the automotive industry had been nominated.

Dr. E. Scholz, Škoda Auto BOD Member for Technical Development, said at the ceremony: "It is a good sign for us, especially in these difficult times. The result of the "Car of the Year 2009 in the Czech Republic" competition showed that we have gained confidence of both Czech journalists and customers. What is crucial for us is that we offer a product of excellent quality. The Škoda Superb is the result of great teamwork of people at the Škoda company."

This year, the nominated cars were divided into five categories. The Škoda Superb ranked as number one in the middle and upper-middle class category (7 nominated cars). The victory of the Škoda Superb car and winners of other categories had been decided by a professional 23-member jury, together with general public, with the total of 70,047 voters participating in the decision.

The "Car of the Year 2009 in the Czech Republic" competition was organized by the Car Importers Association and the Automotive Industry Association in cooperation with the general partner, the Credium company.

At that occasion, the Automotive Industry Association, as the co-organizer of the "Car of the Year 2009 in the Czech Republic" competition, has announced the next year of the "Supplier for the Car of the Year 2009 in CR" competition, which members of the association, producing components or accessories for the nominated cars, could enter.

The automotive industry is of great significance in CR: with total annual sales of about CZK 650 billion, it constitutes 20 % of industrial production and 20% of export in CR. In the year 2008, the output of the automotive industry increased as well, although not as significantly as in previous years.
