Smart Fortwo Brabus edition asphaltgold showcased at the IAA 2017 - Live

Daimler's compact car division Smart has also brought the limited edition Smart Fortwo Brabus Edition asphaltgold for a showcase at the IAA 2017 in Frankfurt. It's on sale in European markets since July 2017, and available in both coupe and cabrio variants.

Prices start from EUR 18,990 for the base 71 PS coupe variant and can go all the way up to EUR 27,015 for the 109 PS cabrio variant (featured). The build is strictly limited to 500 units, and come with a pair of customised Nike Air Max 1 Ultra Flyknit iD by asphaltgold (also limited to 500 units). It's been designed around the motto 'Asphalt is more than just a road'. Regardless, it's not every day a manufacturer ties up with a sneaker company for a limited edition.

The asphaltgold edition is only available with a matte grey exterior colour contrasted with either atomic yellow matte or red copper matte accents on the Brabus front spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser. It also gets a Brabus roof edge spoiler in gloss black, Brabus third brake light in smoke-glass optics, and rides on 16-inch dual tone alloy wheels. Inside, the Brabus asphaltgold edition has upholstery in black leather with decorative seams in grey, as well as the instrument panel and door panel draped in black fabric. Optionally, customers can spec the interior to feature atomic yellow or red copper accents on the dashboard.

Under the hood, there are three engine options: a 999 cc inline three-cylinder engine with 71 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 91 Nm of torque at 2,850 rpm, a smaller but more powerful 898 cc inline three-cylinder turbocharged mill with 90 PS of power at 5,500 rpm and 135 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm, and a 0.9-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 80 kW (109 hp) at 5,750 rpm and 170 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. The three engines can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed dual clutch transmission.
