Spied - Chevrolet Prisma enroute to Brazilian dealerships

We have been following the Chevrolet Prisma keenly, knowing fully well that we may never see it in India. The Prisma is to the Onix, what the Sail is to the Sail U-VA in India.

Chevrolet of Brazil recently teased the sedan without divulging details. The official launch is expected to be held on February 27.

Sales of the Prisma should begin in March and as you can see from these photos, preparation is underway.

Shot by Mr. Douglas Santos, a reader of Autos Segredos and Mr. Andrew, a Noticias Automotivas reader, the Prisma is reportedly on its way to local Brazilian dealerships.

The Brazil specific Prisma is expected to be powered by a 1.4-liter Flex fuel engine producing about 106 bhp. A 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic are the expected transmission options.

While the base- and mid-variants of the Prisma appeal to the budget conscious, a high-end LTZ variant with added goodies like ABS, airbags, alloy wheels and Chevy’s MyLink multimedia infotainment system was also spotted, meant for the value-seeking buyer.

For a boot-job, the Chevrolet Prisma looks clean and classy.

Once launched, the Prisma would compete with the Toyota Etios and the upcoming Hyundai HB20 sedan as well. However, if history is anything to go by, the Prisma would be a success in the Brazilian market considering that its smaller hatchback sister, the Onix, is raking in big numbers.

While the price is still unannounced, it is expected that the Prisma would cost between 34,000 Brazilian Real's (INR 9.43 lakhs) to 36,000 Brazilian Real's (INR 9.99 lakhs).

The Prisma makes us think: Should GM India have given us the Onix and the Prisma instead of the Sail U-VA and the Sail?
