The testing of the car has been intensified as evident from the fact that spyshots are coming in regularly. The recent set was sent to us by Chennai reader Aviral.

By downgrading the current Micra, Nissan is making space in the premium hatchback segment for the recently unveiled Micra facelift.

According to our sources, the repositioned Nisan Micra could be called as the Nissan Micra Active. We also hear that Nissan has managed to bring down the cost of the hatchback which sits on lightweight V platform by various measures like skimping on the NVH package, localizing the steering system which was initially imported and by removing the driver airbag which is standard across all variants of the current Micra.

From the spyshots, we can see that there are no distinctive visual differences between the low cost version and the car which is currently on sale. Only noticeable difference is the Aqua Green exterior color in some of the other test mules from this batch which is borrowed from the Nissan Evalia. The dark blue shade seen on this car is also not on the current palette.

The low cost version of the Micra will continue to use the acclaimed 64 bhp 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine which is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

With a competitive pricing, the down-segmented Nissan Micra could emerge as a very tempting choice since Nissan will not be fiddling with the strengths of the car.
