Spied: Nissan Sunny sedan in Chennai

Recently, our special report revealed that the Honda City is the best selling C+ sedan in India. But as this segment heats up with new entrants like the new Fiesta and the RB sedan, it is going to be more and more difficult for Honda to hold on to its dwindling market share. Making matters worse is Nissan who have started testing their C-Segment Sunny sedan in Chennai.

The 2011 Nissan Sunny, developed on the versatile ‘V’ platform, is already on sale in the China. Don’t expect this car to perform too well in the style department because on the outside it looks like it was made by the same person who made the Swift DZire and on the inside it looks exactly like a Micra. In China, the car sports two engine options:

• A 1.5L four-cylinder petrol engine with 100bhp
• A 1.5L diesel engine with the same output

The Sunny in China is also available with a CVT Xtronic gearbox so Nissan can bring an automatic version to India as well.

With an estimated starting price of around 6.5 lakh rupees, the Sunny will have to battle it out against Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti SX4, Ford Fiesta, Fiat Linea and the likes. Expect the car in the second half of 2011. This car could be named Nissan Almera in India.
