Spied - Undisguised 2013 Force Trax Gurkha spotted testing

There are very few go-anywhere SUVs in the affordable price range and the Force Gurkha is most certainly one of them.

The reason behind its ability is that the car was partly based on Mercedes-Benz technology and there are many avid off-road enthusiasts who can vouch for Gurkha's ability off the road.

The Trax Gurkha's exhaust pipe arises from the bonnet and runs as high as the roof line before spitting the smoke. This suggests that this 4x4 SUV can traverse not only the unforgiving lands but also can wade through waters intakes air into the engine through a snorkel placed ahead of the A-Pillar so that it can wade through deep puddles without taking in water.  Now that's a capability not many SUVs possess.

Our friends at Motorbash.com have spotted a red test mule of the updated Force Trax Gurkha 4WD fully undisguised. The new car has few exterior modifications like the round headlights which replaces the earlier version's rectangular units, and alloy wheels that have come off the Force One.

The old Trax Gurkha was powered by a Mercedes derived 2.6-litre common rail diesel motor which develops 75 bhp of power and 195 Nm of torque. The 4WD version came equipped with lockable differential.

The new Trax Gurkha 4WD is expected to borrow its powertrain from the Force motors' flagship SUV, the Force One. The Force One also employs a Mercedes sourced engine which displaces 2.2 litre. With 142 PS and 320 Nm on tap, this motor could enhance the Gurkha's already strong capabilities and give it an advantage over the Mahindra Thar.
